My old buddy from college, Selena called me to do a "gallivant day" downtown. I went along and spent the afternoon with no real goal or destination in mind. All we knew was that we wanted to be downtown checking out stores and walking around. The first stop was at Spring Rolls, where we were meeting Mr. Budhu for lunch. When Selena and I arrived there, we noticed a really pretty Christmas tree by our table. We then got the crazy idea to take as much pics as we could of the best Christmas trees on our city romp.
After having a fantastic lunch, we got to take a behind the scenes tour with Mr. Budhu at Toronto City Hall where he works. We saw his desk and phone... and... um.. that's pretty much it! End of tour!! Selena and I then headed to the Toronto Tourist Information booth where they gave us some free maps and lots of ideas of where to go with our free afternoon. We were in the mood for hot chocolate so we ventured across the street into the Sheraton Hotel. As we enter, we see a shoe-shine stand. I get up on the chair and get my shoes shined by one of the nicest guys I ever met. Selena took lots of pics of the event and we had a lot of fun with him. He did an amazing job as well. After my shoes were super shiny, we ventured up to TRADERS - a bar/pub inside the Sheraton Hotel. It was there where we got our hot chocolate -- with Baileys in a shot glass beside it! It was oh sooo good!!
Onto our next adventure, we walked to Queen Street where we hopped on the street car so we could go to Kensington Market and check out what's going on there. Our streetcar did a short turn at McCaul Street, so we had to get off and walk the remainder of the way to Spadina. On our little walk down Queen Street, we passed by the CITY TV - Much Music building. Selena wanted to go in and see what's happening. So we walk in and there was a live show happening (Much On Demand) and today's guest was Franz Ferdinand. We checked to see if there was any more space left, but it was already at capacity. They gave us a number to call to make reservations for upcoming shows. A big security guard came up to me and said, "Make sure you try to reserve for Monday, because Tom Cruise is coming in that day". I was very appreciative of that info and reminded myself to make sure I call the number!
Selena and I continued our walk down Queen Street. On our way, we bumped into CITY-TV reporter, Cynthia Mulligan. She was just about to walk into a Club Monaco. I said "Hello" to her, and she responded back with a very polite smile and hello back. She then continued her walk into Club Monaco. It was only after I realized that I could have stopped to take a pic with her. So I don't have any pics. We finally arrive at Spadina Street and get on the streetcar, we got off at College and then walked into the market. It wasn't as bustling with all the fruit stands like on weekends, but all the little tapas bars and cafes were open. So were some stores. We ventured into this one store that was super-duper cool. They had all sorts of knick-knacks and clothes and stuff. It was very cool. We found a Christmas tree in there as well and took a pic with it.
We left Kensington Market and headed to Dundas Square and met up with Kevin. We took some pics of the lighted tress there and the lit polar bears. We were hungry and went to eat at Jack Astor's. We had some food and another round hot chocolate with Baileys! We shortly ended the night and headed down to the subway station. On our way down, I see a guy I just met the other night at the Comedy Show... his name was Samuel Muzic! I introduced him to the group and we had some good laughs. We then went on our merry way home!
