Ahhh... the spring time! Birds are chirping, the trees are in bloom and the weather is just beautiful! What a perfect day to explore one of Oakville, Ontario's hidden gems -- Gairloch Gardens!
I met up with my friend, Tanya, first at Starbucks -- since she's the resident Oakvillian, and we went to check out the gardens. Right from the entrance, it was stunningly beautiful. It was a great day to visit the gardens, however the gallery itself was not open so early. There were little kids in a school group from Loyola that were drawing pictures of things in the pond, birds, ducks, whatever they could see and record with their pencils onto a piece of paper. I wish I could have chatted with them so I could grasp what exactly they were observing.
Anyways, Tanya and I venture towards Lake Ontario. It was so blue and beautiful. The breeze was very minimal, but a great compliment to the warm sun beating down on my forehead. We walked over to a stream where there were catfish and Canadian geese. Tanya discovered tadpoles in one of the ponds and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of a frog or a turtle. I guess I'll have to wait! There were lily pads though!! We walked up a hill towards the east side of the gallery. Tanya told me that she came here as a kid and there was a big bush carved into the shape of a Cadillac! I really wanted to see that! However, there wasn't any neato shaped bushes today. There was this metal enclosure that had windchimes at the top of it, which looked like it would make a nice song during breezy conditions. Today was not a breezy day, so no song! We kept on walking up more towards the parking lot and I saw these interesting sculptures. I had to get a closer look! I did, and I asked Tanya to take a pic of me beside them. I'm very happy with the pic!! We then got back into Tanya's car and she proceeded to give me a mini tour of Oakville -- she showed me things like her school, where she hung out, etc. It was very interesting! We passed by the old Sharkey's Bar,(a classic Oakville staple) which was sold a few years back and the land was turned into condos. Everyone seems to have a memory of Sharkey's!
Well, that was pretty much it!! A great start to a wonderful spring!
