cK at Taste Of The Danforth

cK AND D'ETTE GET A TASTE OF GREEK CUISINE AT TORONTO'S BIGGEST FOOD FESTIVAL

Every year, over 1 million people swell the east side of Toronto on the Danforth for all sorts of Greek cuisine. Pork on a stick, chicken in a pita, baklava and so much more are on the taste buds of many who have travelled from near and far for this annual event.

The 'Taste Of the Danforth' is dear to my heart, because it is the place where D'ette and I had our first date. So we ventured back to the place that started it all. We took in many of the cuisine and didn't spend too much money either. Walking up and down the avenue, there were lots of smokey smells and tastes. I partaked in a rosemary lamb, chicken on a stick, pork on a stick and $1.00 bottled water. D'ette looked specifically for her favourite waffled ice cream sandwich. When we did manage to find it, it appeared to be from the only place on the entire road that actually had it.

Before we left, I had to get those honeyball things that tasted soooo good. The longer we kept walking, the longer the lines grew as it seemed that more people were coming in the later hours. We kept walking and it seemed the prices got more steeper. I found this one booth that was selling the lokamoudes or whatever you call them for 12 for $3.00-- I thought that was a good deal... but I didn't buy it from them. As I neared the exit to Pape station, there was this one person selling the honeyball things, but with over 12 of them in a cup, for the same $3.00. I thought that was a good deal,so I got those. The guy was also really nice to give me an D'ette an extra fork so we could both share.

As we were leaving, there was a stage setup and some people were posing and taking pics with someone. D'ette and I ventured over to see what the hoopla was about. It was the leader of Canada's NDP Party, Jack Layton! I went over and was telling D'ette to pose and ask him for a picture, but she was too shy. So I went and posed with him. You can see the picture in the gallery below.

After that, we were ready to go home. As we approached the Pape Station subway entrance, it seemed that everyone else rode the subway there too, so the lines to getting in were packed! It was okay though, the waiting time to get into the subway was maybe 5 or 7 minutes, so it wasn't really that bad.

Overall, it was a great time. Usually I bump into old friends and familiar faces, but this year I was just focused on the food and enjoying my time with my girl.

Another year at the Danforth, and another memorable day!
