cK At The Movies: Nov 26, 2008

(DVD Edition) CrazyKelvin reviews Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mr. Bean's Holiday, and Beer League.

Welcome to the another edition of "CK At The Movies"! I'm your reviewer, CrazyK and today I will be reviewing the latest movies out on DVD, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Mr. Bean's Holiday" and "Beer League".

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL:(2008)
Starring Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand

I remember the movie trailer for this, and was not enticed enough to see it in theatres. However, I just happened to watch it recently during a "Guy's Movie Night" at my place and this movie totally took me by surprise. I related to the plot and storyline in so many ways. There were many times, I felt I was watching a complete re-enactment of my last relationship -- in a movie!!

The main character, Jason Segel who I never seen anywhere before puts on a fantastic performance. Mila Kunis' character just steals your heart and makes you want to take a trip to Hawaii and just forget about all your worries. Kristen Bell's character was very much like my ex girlfriend and I despised her so much! Anyways, besides all that -- the movie was great and had my friends laughing hysterically.

Trivia: A week after the release of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Universal Pictures announced a new film Get Him to the Greek, reteaming Jonah Hill and Russell Brand with writer/director Nicholas Stoller and producer Judd Apatow. Variety initially announced the project would focus on "fresh-out-of-college insurance adjuster (Hill) who is hired to accompany an out-of-control rock star (Brand) from London to a gig at L.A.'s Greek Theater." In July 2008, Brand mentioned that he would be reprising his Aldous Snow role from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in a new film from Apatow in which the character was back on drugs.

MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY:(2007)
Starring Rowan Atkinson, Emma de Caunes, Willem Dafoe

Mr. Bean is back in another crazy adventure for the big screen. Rowan Atkinson reprises the role for the last time in this very funny movie.

The premise is that "Bean" is traveling to the south of France to go to the beach. On his way there, he becomes friends with a boy also traveling. There is a mixup and apparently Bean is a wanted man for kidnapping. While he's oblivious to everything happening, he meets "Sabine", a very lovely French actress that drives him to Cannes. There is even a role played by Willem Dafoe, and any movie with Willem Dafoe is always GOLD!

I assure you, if you got Mr. Bean's humour before in his show and previous movie, then this movie will totally have you laughing until it hurts.

Trivia: It took an opening gross of US$12.7 million in the United Kingdom, the biggest opening for a film in 2007 up until the release of Spider-Man 3. Mr. Bean's Holiday grossed a total of $229.7 million worldwide.

BEER LEAGUE:(2006)
Starring Artie Lange, Ralph Macchio, Anthony DeSando, Cara Buono

I might have got this movie from the $5 bin at Wal-Mart, but I'm not sure. Anyways, it resides along the rest of the movies on my dvd shelf. Does it belong there? Yes! After viewing this masterpiece, I'm totally sold that this very low budget movie is a must-see for any guy.

The premise is pretty much that Artie, (a fat loser in New Jersey) is playing in a softball league and the rest of his full-blood-italian team-mates can't seem to win any games. They are crap at the sport and they know it. They fight a lot and drink lots of beer. It doesn't help that their team is sponsored by the local bar. Ralph Macchio, of Karate Kid fame plays one of the team-mates and gives a great performance. You don't have to be a fan of Artie, or a New Jersey Italian to enjoy this movie. Anyone can get the low-brow humour of this flick! Warning: It's NOT a Cinderella story! There is nudity and is not recommended for teen audiences!! There, I warned you. Now go get this flick!!

Trivia: During the championship game, a clear cardboard cut-out of Where's Waldo can be seen in 4 seconds of the frame.
