Aisha
got her comedy start at the J. Eugene McAteer School of the Arts
in San Francisco, where she routinely cut class to sneak into
Improv comedy classes. Eventually the teachers got tired of wondering
who the tall black girl with the bizarre sense of humor was, and
asked her to stay (trust me, it was just easier that way). For
most of Aisha's childhood she was out of place, a fish out of
water, a fly in the ointment. The result is hilariously personal
comedy. "I take the most wrenchingly painful moments of my life,
brush them off, and present them for the amusement of others.
Lucky for me, my childhood was torture."
Aisha continued performing sketch and theater at Dartmouth College.
After graduating with a degree in Political Science (hey, being
a lawyer seemed like a good idea at the time, until she realized
drinking for free and staying out until 4 am weren't part of the
gig), she attacked comedy full time, working clubs and colleges
in thirty states before finally settling in Los Angeles.
In
the short time since she arrived in LA, she's appeared on television
shows including Politically Incorrect, The List, The Pretender,
The Martin Short Show, Comedy Central, and Louie Anderson's Comedy
Showcase. She's also appeared in the films Dancing in September,
Metro, Grand Avenue and the edgy independent short film The Whipper,
among others.
Aisha
was recently picked by Daily Variety as "a breakthrough talent
headed for an impact on comedy." Reviewers have called her act
"hip, wry, and thoroughly unconventional." She performs frequently
at the Laugh Factory on the Sunset Strip and The Improvisation
on Melrose. She also performs daily in front of the television
in her living room in her underwear, but tickets to those shows
are VIP only.
